Welcome to the fourteenth edition of “Startup of the Week” which features many great startups and interviews with successful business heads. This week, I interviewed Paul Jobin, the founder and managing director of Snugs.
I’ve asked Paul a series of questions regarding Snugs and also regarding tips for budding entrepreneurs. Have a read at what he had to say.
How did the idea of Snugs come about?
I have started many businesses and been around new products and innovation for 35 years but have never come across a product as good as Snugs custom made earphones. I founded the company two years ago with the vision to do to earphones what Beats have done for Headphones, namely create a huge consumer brand.
I came across the product being made and delivered using old technology. I loved the product itself, and could see that new 3D imaging and scanning would enable a very niche expensive product to be available to the consumer market.
Simply, what does your business do?
Snugs custom fit earphones are made exclusively for your individual ears. Our 3D image process ensures Snugs fit perfectly into your ears. They never fall out, however, active you are and are always comfortable however long you wear them.
“Be focused on the goals and always maintain your perseverance.” – Paul Jobin, founder of Snugs
The noise isolation delivers unrivaled sound – Snugs give the best listening experience. So that others don’t annoy you (and you don’t annoy others) noise pollution is kept out with your music unable to escape through the perfect fit of the headphones. You can also add a personal touch with a large range of colours and effects available.
Did you have a business plan?
Yes, with a very clear vision with a clear exit strategy.
What were the boundaries you faced when creating Snugs?
I forgot how much hard work it is starting a new business and how slow everybody goes, especially money men.
What is the difference between you and your competitors?
We move faster and are way out in front of a rapidly expanding new market for consumer custom fit earphones. Nobody else is using 3D scanning.
What were you doing before Snugs?
Advising businesses on how to grow. Before that, I sold 10 million Yo-yo’s in the toy craze of 1998 and built a large successful active leisure business.
What advice would you give to budding entrepreneurs?
Be focused on the goals and always maintain your perseverance.
In one word, describe your job?
I’d like to say thank you to Paul for this interview. Have a look below at Snugs’ social links. Get in touch if you want your startup to be in the running for an interview.
